5 Great Reasons to Not Learn Piano

We hear a lot about how learning to play piano is amazing, but those writers are only telling one side of the story. Here are five great reasons that you shouldn't learn piano.

1. It's not as easy as watching TV

Learning piano involves memorizing stuff, and practicing, and generally working. Sure, you might be playing songs you know and enjoy, but why do that when you can just listen to them or watch the music videos on TV?

2. It'll cut into your lying-around time

Aside from how difficult it is, learning piano actually takes valuable time out of your life; time that you could use to spend more time at the office, clean out the attic, or just lay on the couch. And it's a slippery slope, because you might lose track of time while playing and before you know it, you won't have time left to vacuum or whatever.

3. It's not free

There are costs associated with piano, including books, the cost of a piano, the cost of a self-learning course or a teacher, etc. Are you sure you really want to commit time and money to this? On the other hand, you know what is free? Lying around.

4. People will always be asking you to play

One of the most maddening things about learning piano is the effect that it has on people around you. Previously, they were satisfied to leave you alone and go about their lives, but once they know you can play piano, they'll be asking you to play for them all the time. This gets very annoying, especially if you just want to lay around. It's just so much easier to be useless to people so they don't expect much from you.

5. You could get addicted

This is perhaps the most dangerous risk of all; you could get addicted to playing piano. You might think that you'll just start playing a little and you'll be able to keep it under control, but if you really get into it and start learning a lot, you might find yourself spending a lot of time. You'll be addicted and you won't be able to help yourself. Piano addiction is a serious condition, and you should avoid it at all costs by avoiding ever touching a piano.

If you still want to learn piano after reading all these great reasons not to, congratulations, you might be a piano player! Find out by working through some good self-learning courses and see how you like it. Good luck!

Self-Taught Guitar DVD Courses Could Be Enough

Enthusiasm, patience and the spirit to learn without giving up in the middle are the essential qualities for one to become a good guitarist. It is not easy to master the instrument. It is not difficult either. If one has the patience and perseverance to correct them, and keep learning the job is half done. A self taught guitar DVD is an important tool in the path to knowledge and expertise in playing guitar.

As is common to all forms of learning, only an expert can deliver the lessons in a way that could be understood and there are various details one must concentrate upon to learn the art properly. Teaching guitar to oneself often requires discipline too and in some cases sincerely follow the lessons and lectures. The DVDs usually have some easy scales, some songs that can be played easily and the level of difficulty gradually increases.

Dvd guitar lessons can be very beneficial in many aspects. First of all, the student does not need to travel for guitar classes. Secondly, the student do not need to pay monthly fees for a private guitar teacher. Moreover, guitar lessons on dvds allow the student to progress at his own pace.

To learn the guitar from a DVD one must impose strict discipline and deadlines. It is often tempting to move to new lessons as one gets bored. This leaves much room of improvement and the inability to learn things properly. Often the guitarist should doggedly try to master one particular exercise before moving on to the next one. Jumping from one exercise to another hardly does any good. Besides, the DVDs are well structured with later lessons using techniques that are dependent on the former ones. The speed and complexity of the notes increases constantly. Hence DVDs are a good measure of where one stands in terms of learning, but this is valid only if the lectures are sincerely followed and mastered one at a time.

Self taught guitar DVD course is of real help for sincere students, as they can replay a particular track any number of times before mastering it. Often minor hiccups prevent the guitarist to complete an exercise and this could be overcome by focusing on the visual demonstration presented by the expert. In most cases the expert would also point out easy tips and necessary frills like sliding the fingers, choking the strings etc., and one needs to only see and imbibe to learn the instrument.

Piano Dollies - Equipment For Any Piano Moving Situation

Piano Dollies used to come with grand pianos in order to allow the pianos to be moved safely and easily from one area of the house or music room to another. Many older grand pianos found in homes across America are on the dollies that came with their unit and many people have thought that the wheels were part of the piano, not understanding that they can easily be removed, replaced and stored until the need to actually move a piano arises very easily.A traditional style grand piano mover is a 3 legged piece of equipment that, when folded up, is very compact and can easily fit into the side of a home closet or easily slide onto a shelf. The unit expands by allowing the legs to unfold by straightening them from the unit and then by extending the legs by adjusting them with a wrench. When purchasing a grand piano mover it is best to know the measurements of the distances between the legs of the piano. The piano dollies come in different sizes in order to allow for maximum strength with smaller sizes for storage purposes. Many units will expand several inches, even feet, away from the base, but having a piano dolly that is too short will not serve the intended purpose and may leave you having to carry one leg by yourself.A new grand piano mover has recently been introduced to the market that is much easier to setup and weighs less than traditional units, without sacrificing the strength needed to safely transport your piano. The new style of Grand Piano Dolly also has fewer adjustments to make in order to use it. The spider-like design of traditional units has been replaced by a straight line conventional design making the unit simple to setup, take down and store. There is no need to ever suffer from a sore back again from moving your grand piano. Be sure you have a grand piano dolly to help you along the way.

Electric Guitar Lessons - Where Should I Begin? (Otherwise You'll Waste Time)

The first thing that most people want to do when they start electric guitar lessons is to learn how to play that songs they hear on the radio or on their favorite CDs.  The problem is that, in my years of playing experience, it can be more frustrating to start off with that goal in mind than to have a more reasonable objective.  Playing the guitar requires technique, practice, and an understanding of how to properly apply pressure to a string to get the sound you want.  Learning how to play your favorite song right away would be frustrating because you lack the basics needed to create the sounds you hear, and it is also the wrong way to go about.

The correct way to go about getting electric guitar lessons is to find someone with experience that offers lessons, and train with that player.  Make sure that your teacher is interested in the same genres of music as you, because a beginner will feel most comfortable with something they are more familiar with.  As you advance in your lessons, it would be a good idea to branch out other genres to try and add some different sounds to your playing.  A good music teacher that is familiar with your favorite genre of music is the best way to start off.

The first thing you will notice about electric guitar lessons from someone who knows how to teach, is that it will start of very basic and very simple.  It is possible that after the first lesson your teacher will have you playing parts of songs, but they will be songs that fit your learning curve and can help you reach your goal of being able to learn your favorite songs.  Once you have the basics of playing the electric guitar, you can then start to experiment on your own and see what kinds of things you can figure out for yourself as opposed to your teacher showing you.

One of the really fun things about electric guitar lessons is hearing your guitar make that chord progression, or that note, that you hear on your favorite albums.  If you are patient and give lessons a chance, then you will find learning on your own to be much easier.  But take the time to lay a strong foundation for your guitar-playing future, and make sure to take some lessons of the basics of playing the electric guitar.

Skeletons and Red Butterflies

Lyrics: I dance inside the paintings til the brushes break my legs and I will fall. I will fall. I tear apart the fake lament that lies between the mirrors and the stall. Oh Sunday's gone and I know it's not enough for me to cry. I have lost the real meaning in it. Skeletons and red butterflies form a portal here. I guess it's my disguise, I always need something to cower behind. Alone on the front steps of the cathedral waiting for some kind of call that won't absolve an ounce of fear you have about your life that's become nothing but a fight. Still the street lamps sing at 4am "the basement dwellers love our summer songs!" Oh Sunday's gone and I know it's not enough for me to cry. I have lost the real meaning in it. Skeletons and red butterflies form a portal here. I guess it's my disguise, I always need something to cower behind. I come from a basement life. Hidden with furnaces you can't help but catch on fire, and that's exactly what I did.

Guitar Lessons - How to Learn Strumming

Learning how to play the guitar takes time even if it does not guarantee that the person will become a rock star. One can still do it by practicing often then harnessing his skill.

There are two ways for z person to start strumming the guitar. The first is doing it with the fingers and the other is doing it with a pick.

Practice starts by finding a place where you won't be disturbed. Positioning does matter a lot so it's best to put the guitar over the right knee (for a right handed person and vise versa if left handed) in order to play well.

There are some rules that you must remember when strumming. Of the 5 fingers, only 4 are used. The thumb touches and from to time adjusts to the three brass strings. The index, middle and ring fingers will handle the three treble strings. The pinkie is not used since it is the shortest finger and is not conducive to playing the guitar.

The guitarist can start by putting the right hand over the body of the guitar. The thumb should then touch the lowest string which is the low E.

At the same time, the left hand should touch the easy G chord and the index finger can go to the third fret at the top which is known as the high E string.

The right thumb will then stroke the 4th string then adjustments of the fingers can be made to hear it at different sounds and intervals.

If the person feels uncomfortable letting the fingers do the work, then he should start by using a flat pick. Some people have said that this is the easiest way to learn since a guitar has steel strings. By holding the pick with the thumb and ring finger then practicing it at different intervals, in time you will get the feel of playing the guitar.

Strumming is the best way to learn how to play a guitar. This can be done by buying a song book and reading the chords or learning them from friends.

When you are ready to move from drills to a playing a song, it is suggested that you have the music playing in the background.

Strumming is not only for beginners as some of the most skilled guitarists do this to warm up before practice or a gig. Everyone has to start somewhere and it starts by knowing the basics.

Guitar Pro and Other Guitar Tablature Software

Guitar Pro is the most popular of the software available for editing guitar tabs. As we all know guitar tab is basically a picture of the six guitar strings with fret numbers showing the guitar player where to put his fingers on the fretboard plus other symbols indicating various left hand techniques.

First let us take a look at the most basic method of writing guitar tab - the text editor. Notepad or any other text editor is capable of writing guitar tab. Guitar, bass guitar and banjo tabs are written in ASCII file format. Most of the tabs you find on the internet are written in ASCII format. In ASCII tab hyphens are used to show string lines and numbers represent frets. Other elements like barlines, rhythms, bends, chord symbols can be shown in many ways. Guitar Pro and other guitar tablature programs generate files similar to ASCII but if you want to edit a hand-made ASCII tab you will have to do it manually.

Guitar Pro is a tool for guitarists who want to compose, transcribe or edit their own music. This program and others, shows the music in conventional music notation as well as tab. The guitarist can start with a new tab or import MIDI or ASCII files and use the Guitar Pro interface to write his music and hear his work played back by his computers MIDI. The finished work can be exported in ASCII or MIDI formats. The composer can then edit, play back and save his tabs. You can download a free trial version of Guitar Pro.

Power Tab is another program for writing guitar tab but it is available free of charge. You can use it to write guitar and bass tabs. The Power Tab Editor also imports MIDI files, and can also export to ASCII Text, HTML, and MIDI formats.

Using TablEdit guitarists can create, edit, print and play back guitar tabs. TablEdit also generates tabs and musical notation for harmonica, mountain dulcimer, diatonic button accordion, drums, violin, tin whistle, recorder, Xaphoon, autoharp, pedal steel guitar, piano, and banjo. You can download the free trial version of TablEdit and use it indefinitely as long as you can put up with the nag messages and the fact that you cannot save edited tabs.

TuxGuitar is an open source software for writing and playing back a number of tablature formats. TuxGuitar has many handy features including editing tabs and scores, autoscroll while the music is being played back, effects like bends, slides, vibrato, hammer-ons and pull-offs. With TuxGuitar you can also manage tempo and time signature. A bonus is you can import and export files from Guitar Pro versions 4 and 5.

The big disadvantage with reading, writing guitar music using tablature has always been the fact that tab does not show tempo and rhythm. This means that unless you are already familiar with the piece of music you are learning, you might be struggling to get the right note values and rhythm. With guitar tab software this problem is eliminated because even if you are working from imported ASCII tab the software tells you what the piece sounds like through the MIDI playback and the standard music notation features. My advice is to download all the programs and try them out to see which one best suits you. for the most recent version of all these programs, just do an internet search by product name.

The Importance Of Music Contests

A band or music artist at some point in their career will probably be faced with the decision of whether to enter a talent, vocal, singing, battle of the bands, composing, or lyric/songwriting contest. Your friends and family might be telling you how great they think you are and suggest that you enter. Possibly a teacher recognizing a talent, might be the push. Whomever it is, why would you want to and why should you enter a music competition?

In the USA, one of the biggest singing contests now of course, is American Idol, a televised contest where the viewers vote, and the finalist wins possible fame and fortune. Across the globe are Australian Idol, World Idol, Latin American Idol, Rockstar: Supernova, Superstar, You're A Star, the list goes on for these hugely popular events.

Having your singing voice, writing skills, or instrumentation judged by a panel of industry experts is not for the weak of heart, but neither is the music business. The cash and the prize lists are sometimes enough of a temptation to enter, but think more along the lines of what is your ultimate music goal. Is it a career in music? Then the potential exposure that a contest may bring could be of far more value.

Your chances of winning, as long as you do have good musical skills could be better than you anticipate. Sometimes it just depends on who else enters, the category you enter, or that particular contest. Not to be skeptical, but it may not be that you are the preeminent singer, writer, or musician in the entire world, but you are the best that entered at that time. That being said, it still shows that you won!

What are the benefits of entering

Various contests across the globe offer a variety of prize packages, some with a lot of potential for the winners. Prize packages can include cash, recording contracts, a live showcase, radio play, publishing, career development, music instruments and gear, professional evaluation of your submission with feedback, computer software, music books, and cool online music service memberships.

Competitions can launch a career. Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera and JC Chasez all made the cut in The New Mickey Mouse Club auditions. Fantasia, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, have all moved from American Idol winners to holding their own in record sales, touring and fame. Kelly Clarkson even won two Grammy Awards!

A song or artist may not be the ultimate winner of the entered contest, but in the judging process, a prospective stand out could earmark that artist for other opportunities. Something may not "win" the category it is in, but a savvy music expert may see the potential for use elsewhere and contact you about it.

An entry in a contest that wins, places or receives honorable mention is a good mark to add to your music profile. You are keeping your music profile online and newsletters updated with your latest exploits, right?

The validation that you won, your work was recognized by industry experts is a huge ego boost and confidence builder. Insert all those gushy Oscar and Grammy acceptance speeches here, but it sure does give you the warm fuzzies.

The publicity received could compensate the entry fee. Exposure can include not only the possibility of being seen by an accredited music professional judge and panel, but magazine, press, and online coverage no matter if you are the ultimate winner or not. Also, some contests do offer reviews on all entries, so that could garner some interesting feedback. Nonetheless, the process itself may add to the overall learning experience.

What might be the drawbacks perceived

There seems to be some ill-perceived notions about some contests, justifiable or not. Some people take the notion that competitions are rip-offs or "they are out to steal my music" mentality. The cost of entering may be a deterrence (the fee plus possibly postage, traveling, etc.). The thought of not a snowball's chance in hell in winning, or even the discouraging thought of having your creation or talent rejected might be a hindrance to the music artist.

Low odds perceived? The motto from the lottery is "you gotta play to win". Millions of people enter lotteries every day. Think about it, not nearly that many are entering contests, though American Idol lines may seem that long. In listening to music artists across the web, there is a general misconception of contests as scams. True, there are and have been some "competition" scams out there or some new contests that didn't raise enough funding, thus destroying the integrity of all involved. Savvy musicians need to filter those out.

That's why you RESEARCH. You learn what competitions are solid and exactly what you need to do to enter correctly. Watch for any wording in the TOC and throughout in the entry process that comes anywhere near saying that they will become the owner of the entry. Usually a contest that's been around a few years and has proven industry sponsors, partners, judges and founders shows the commitment to excellence needed.

Check out online comments on particular contests. You may find a comment in a forum that is a bit off-color. Take that with a grain of salt, as a disgruntled "sore-loser" may have posted something based on his/her disillusionment, rejection or for not entering properly.

Entry fees are standard procedure for entering many competitions. The cost of advertising, organizing and promoting contests, let alone the prize money and gear offered add up. Staff for accounting, processing entries, booking and countless other business processes are needed. Possibly even the professional judges time may need to be paid for.

If a contest says $50K in prizes, read the rest of the text and know how that is split up. Be aware of any taxes due on cash on prizes won and the law applicable in your state or locality.

What you need to do

Thoroughly read all rules, criteria, Terms and Conditions (TOC), use of your name and music and understand in detail the process and what to expect. Any wording that states that your music will become the property of the contest, steer clear of. They should have the right to promote the winners list, play the song, use your name of course, as the writer/creator of the music as well as image - but you remain the sole owner.

Research which competitions would be a best fit for your level and experience, to enhance your career in music. Is the competition open to anyone, amateurs, semi-pros and/or professionals? Is it open internationally or locally only? Can you enter online? Does everyone get something out of it? Look for well established competitions that can prove and deliver what they state.

Correctly fill in your application form, and recheck your spelling. If filling out a form for several entries, fill in critical info and copy it, then fill in the individual entry sections.

Take notice of how the judging process works. Is the emphasis on the lyrics only or the recording? Songs or lyrics may be first judged by an "in house" panel; if the piece passes and surpasses the criteria set for that category, it may then be passed on to the next level or round. Check out the judges panel, some contests have top names across the industry that could possibly listen to your work.

If you win or place well - get every ounce of mileage you can from the free publicity. Not only announcing it on your web page(s), bio page, online press release, but get local news coverage, school, TV, and radio. Make an announcement and soak it up for all it's worth.

Where to find contests

Nearly every country, city, and many towns have some kind of music awards, competitions, contests or battle of the bands for any instrument played, singing or writing style. By searching online for any of those keywords will bring an assortment of results. Some contest are specified only to certain genres or instruments, while some are open year around and some open and close at different times of year.

Search music magazines, music stores, music schools, college music departments, and radio/television press. Some competitions you will need to be a member of an organization and some require that you do not. Many contests have early bird entry fees, or multiple entry discounts. Entry confirmation is something that should be offered.

Don't enter a contest too early if you are an impatient person, as some contest cycles may take as much as a year from opening to winners announcements.

One gifted artist may have reasons for not wanting the limelight and frills of a competition; for another it may be a goal or milestone. The sheer volume of competitions available are a testament to some basic human need of acceptance within us all.

If exposure and publicity are desired to get your foot in the door, contests can be invaluable. A career in music is an ongoing process, filled with years of blood, sweat and tears. They can be tears of pain and rejection and tears of joy. Dream big and strive bigger, and may you hear one day as the envelope is opened, "And the winner is...".

Interest Your Child in Piano

A frequent question is, "How do we get our child to practice the piano?"I always stop them politely and say, "Please, say 'Play the piano' not 'Practice the piano.' "If you make the piano into a game, you might get the child to try playing piano on their own, not under your orders.

For example, your child undoubtedly has a favorite toy or game. You don't have to say, "Go play your game," because the child ALWAYS wants to do that activity which brings them such personal reward. To learn the piano even moderately well (even as an adult) you'll need not only persistence, hard work and a lot of intelligence, but also one other quality: love.

That's right, you'll have to love the piano in order to weather all that repetition, confusion and effort, not to mention the time involved. What could possibly make so many people work so hard to master this great instrument? The answer is, because they love the instrument.

And this is also the answer to the original question, "How do we get our child to practice the piano?"You get them to play because it's so much fun that they do it themselves. There is no "practicing." You don't have to tell them to practice. They play the piano as if it were a toy, a treasured toy they like to spend time with, until they're done with it, and then off to another happy activity. Now, for children, this is very easy to accomplish. How? Simply lower the bar initially to the degree that the child cannot fail, can only succeed.

Make initial lessons so much fun that the child begins to want to explore the world of music through the piano. Do this as long as the child needs it until they demonstrate comfort playing simple music.

As an example, let them play with their index finger, as their instincts tell them and piano teachers see again and again. It teaches the child no bad habits because the "one finger system" will be gradually improved upon. How? By using simple finger and note games. See the article on Fingering. Basically, a fingering curriculum might be to let the child play with one index finger initially, preferably the right index finger. It doesn't matter if the child is left or right handed, start with the right index finger.

Then let them play with the index fingers of both hands. Then introduce the right thumb. Then use the right thumb and index together as a team. Then introduce the right middle finger as the third member of the team.

And all this finger stuff and games is before they ever see a note of music!

Always let them go back to a simpler system (one finger) if they demonstrate repeated discomfort with a more complex finger position (more than one finger.)

Discomfort is a child's way of saying, "You're going too fast."

It's far more important that the child feels proud and happy than you, the teacher, feel your method has been understood and mastered. The child doesn't care about your "method," or any method. They care about how they feel about themselves and how they feel about the piano. It's simple human nature. After a little rest (simplicity,) they are ready for another try at reading music, but never press beyond the point of "mostly fun with a little work."Better to back off while it's still fun, and try again another day when they're fresh: it's hard work to learn the piano and you're better off if you and your teacher are not in a hurry. With a child it's not difficult to get them started without anxiety, but it requires a teacher of almost Biblical patience.Give your student a system that is transparently simple, like piano by number, and let them play by themselves. Hopefully your only problem will be getting enough songs for them to consume and explore.

Kids get very good quickly with piano by number, and then, at the time they become comfortable, of course, is the perfect moment to introduce reading music, for they are already comfortable with the instrument and able to play familiar songs reasonably well, in a way that makes them feel proud.

You'll need a good teacher, a very, very patient, almost saintly creature who is funny, articulate, and always has a secret curriculum in mind, reading music.Allow the child time to demonstrate that they are ready pass beyond the world of preparatory piano games and attempt to start to read music.

This "time" could be a week, could be a year, and is entirely dependent on the particular child. Almost the only mistake you can make is to go too fast.

All children start learning the piano in different ways, and a good teacher unlocks the way of teaching that gets them started and makes them love it from the very first minute.

This "magic way," is different for each child, can be humor, it can be math, it can be them imitating what you play, it can be sound games, it can be number games, it can be "Name That Tune," it can be playing with your nose, but don't let them leave that piano with anything in mind but, "Wow, that was FUN!"Delay reading music until the child is comfortable playing simple, familiar songs by number. And when you begin to read music, make each attempt initially no longer than a minute or so. That's right, a minute at a time. The concepts have to be broken down into such simple units that only a minute is required to make a child understand each idea.Later, those ideas are drawn together, allowing the child to easily find the notes on the page on the piano.

You can use the concepts in our book I CAN READ MUSIC, and as a practical matter, never go to the next idea until you are absolutely certain the child can unfailingly master each simple idea (such as lines and spaces, what is a note, where is middle C, etc.)

I've said it before: the worst habit you can learn at the piano is to not enjoy it and not want to play. That's the habit that will make you want to quit.

BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC (FULL ORGAN).

This is me playing the The Battle Hymn of the Republic at Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama. I play the music 4x, and each time I play, it builds its way to a Full Organ. The Battle Hymn is an American abolitionist song, written by Julia Ward Howe in November 1861 and first published in The Atlantic Monthly on February 1st 1862, that became popular during the American Civil War. LYRICS: (there are 6 verses) Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord; He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword; His truth is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on. I have seen Him in the watch fires of a hundred circling camps They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps; I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps; His day is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on. I have read a fiery Gospel writ in burnished rows of steel; "As ye deal with My contemners, so with you My grace shall deal"; Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with His heel, Since God is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on. He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat; He is sifting out the hearts of men before His ...

Raise the Level of Your Piano Playing Skills

If you are truly interested in learning how to play the piano, then you must know that there is a formula to playing. This is a mathematical formula and has to do with the position of the keys, and once you are able to understand this formula you will be able to raise the level of your piano playing skills.

We were all told in school that we need to have a thorough understanding of math, and this is especially true in the art of playing piano. If you do not maintain your knowledge of the formula of the piano keyboard, you will never be able to increase the level of your piano playing skills.

Would you love to be able to be one of those people that can just sit down at a piano and play without any sheet music? You can accomplish this feat, but first you must bring yourself to that articulate piano playing skill level. It's definitely not an unachievable task.

To begin with, go to your keyboard and listen to the different chords and keys that it produces and recognize how to reproduce each. There are keys that are very low progressing to the very high range, and there is no other instrument that has as high octaves as that of the piano so be sure to experiment with both the high octaves as well as the low ones. By learning these features on your piano, you will begin to increase your level of ability.

Learning to play the piano is not necessarily difficult. In fact, some say it is one of the easiest instruments to learn, all it takes is time. The level of skill with which you use to play the piano is up to you. Are you truly serious in your quest to play the piano? Are you willing to practice on a daily basis for an hour or more a day? If you have answered yes to these questions, you will be able to drastically increase your piano playing skills.

It may take you a little time. But how remarkable would it be to be able to sit down at the piano and play anything that comes to heart. Once you learn how to, you can do this whenever you have the desire. You can increase the level of your piano playing skills, and all it takes is a little practice. Be diligent, do not give up. The magic is at your fingertips and waiting to burst out of the keys.

To be able to raise your piano playing skills to that desired level, you must have the required determination and effort.

If you are not willing to do this, then your already-acquired-skills will diminish and you could possibly forget how to play the piano completely. Are you willing to risk losing the treasured music that once came from your fingers and flowed through your piano? Most decide that this would be too much to lose and are willing to do whatever it takes to bring their piano skills to that of even an expert. Remember, it is never too late to raise your skill level, and piano is no exception.

How to Use Music Therapy to Heal Emotional Stress

Music is like food for our life. For instance, you like to hear upbeat rock and roll or hard rock when you are angry, and you want to relax, listen to some mellow songs.

In your everyday routine, allow some quiet time for you before going to sleep at night. During this time, close your eyes and put on some mellow instrumentals. The Successful Career of Ben Folds

He's been on the radar for about a decade and a half now, and Ben Folds has established himself as one of the premier songwriters and pianists in this time. His skills on the piano are rivaled by few, and many believe that he's the best pop pianist out there today. This statement may not be inaccurate if you've ever seen him perform live.

It all started in the mid 90s, as Folds was based in the Chapel Hill, North Carolina area, home to a great music scene. Along with a bassist and a drummer (Robert Sledge and Darren Jessee), the three formed the band known as Ben Folds Five. With a self titled release in 1995, the band quickly wowed critics with some lively compositions that had a truly unique sound. Folds' work on the piano was a refreshing change from the guitar driven rock of the 1990s, and the absence of a guitar in this band almost went unnoticed, thanks to the band's wholly rich sound.

In 1997, the band released its follow up album, known as Forever and Ever, Amen. This was just as well received by critics, and it contained the band's first radio hit, Brick, a song that dealt with the plight of a young couple forced to choose an abortion.

In 1999, the band released its third and final original album, The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner. This may have fallen a bit short of expectations, but was still a great album in its own right. After this, many of the band's fans were disappointed to know that the band had decided to break up. It wasn't all bad news, though. Folds soon announced that he'd be embarking upon a solo career, and during the course of the past decade, he's released three great albums that all showcase his musical talents.

It seems that Folds will continue to churn out musical hits for as long as he can. Enjoy this talented musician, as he's truly a breath of fresh air.

Caruso (Lucio Dalla) articulate by Hojoong Kim (19 years old)

(Translation in English) Here where the sea sparkles, and a strong wind blows, on an old terrace overlooking the gulf of Sorrento, a man holds a little girl in his arms after he's been crying. He clears his throat and sings the song again. I love you so much; so very much, you know. It's a bond, now, you know, that thaws the blood in the veins. He looked at the lights, out at sea, and thought about the nights in America. But they were only the lamps of fishing boats and the white of wake. He felt the pain of the music. He got up from the piano, but when he saw the moon come out from behind the clouds death seemed sweeter to him. He looked into the little girl's eyes - those eyes as green as the sea, then suddenly a tear fell and he thought he was drowning. I love you so much; so very much, you know. It's a bond, now, you know, and it thaws the blood in the veins. The power of opera! where every drama is a sham; where, with a little bit of make-up and mimicry, you can become someone else. But two eyes that look at you, so close and so real, make you forget the script, confounding your thoughts. And so everything became insignificant, including the nights in America. You look back and see your life like the wake [of the boats]. Ah yes! Life is ending, but he wasn't worried about it any more. Instead he felt happy and began to sing the song again. I love you so much; so very much, you know. It's a bond, now, you know, that thaws the blood in the veins. (Original lyrics) Qui ...

Luciano Pavarotti - Caruso ( Te voglio bene assai)

English translation: Here, where the sea shines and the wind howls, on the old terrace beside the gulf of Sorrento, a man embraces a girl after the tears, then clears his throat and continues the song: I love you very much very, very much, you know; it is a chain by now that heats the blood inside the veins, you know... He saw the lights out on the sea, thought of the nights there in America, but they were only the fishermen's lamps and the white wash astern. He felt the pain in the music and stood up from the piano, but when he saw the moon emerging from a cloud, death also seemed sweeter to him. He looked the girl in the eyes, those eyes as green as the sea. Then suddenly a tear fell and he believed he was drowning. I love you very much, very, very much, you know; it is a chain by now that heats the blood inside the veins, you know... The power of opera, where every drama is a hoax; with a little make-up and with mime you can become someone else. But two eyes that look at you, so close and real, make you forget the words, confuse your thoughts, so everything becomes small, also the nights there in America. You turn and see your life through the white wash astern. But, yes, it is life that ends and he did not think much about it, on the contrary, he already felt happy and continued his song: I love you very much, very, very much, you know; it is a chain by now that heats the blood inside the veins, you know...

Not All Coins Are Round

Most coins are round. It is the shape most people associate with them. However, some coins that are not intended to circulate, those minted especially for collectors, have other shapes.

Rectangular coins are becoming more popular. These are often associated with those that have an artistic design, such as the Dreaming Kangaroo and the Dreaming Turtle coins minted by the Perth Mint. Each of these comes in gold and in silver. Another example of the rectangular design is the series from the Perth Mint, the Chinese Characters series of four coins available in either gold or silver. The Chinese Character Series includes Fortune, Longevity, Success, and Wealth. The Perth Mint has also released "square" issues in the past. The half-ounce kookaburra was produced in an almost square design, which was called square by many people. It is rounded on the corners, as are the corners of many rectangular and square coins, but because of its size the rounded corners compose a large portion of the perimeter of the coin.

The Royal Canadian Mint has produces triangular coins, such as Milk of 2009 and the String Guitar of 2010. The new Lunar Series from the Royal Canadian Mint consists of coins that use a scalloped design resembling a lotus blossom. The Lunar Series is available in both silver and gold. The Royal Canadian Mint also has several rectangular coins depicting playing cards. The Playing Cards are minted in Sterling silver, and are available individually or in a case that holds the four cards released this year, the Jack of Hearts, the Ten of Spades, the King of Hearts, and the Queen of Spades.

The New Zealand Mint makes beautiful rectangular coins for the Feng Shui Painting Series. The most current offering is the 2009 two Troy ounce fine silver Peonies that is minted for the government of Niue.

Another shape that is becoming popular is the fan. This is popular in China.

Many other coins are being minted where a rectangular design is painted over the center of the coin. This gives the illusion of a rectangular coin. Frequently, this design is used to allow a piece of art to be properly replicated on a coin, without sacrificing any portion of the art itself.

These are but a few examples of coins that are not round.

Restoring the Commodore's Antique Steinway Piano

The Paris Motor Show in 1867, must have an unforgettable spectacle. The main building was nearly two football fields in length, with a central pavilion, topped by a dome and surrounded by a garden. Over 50,000 exhibitors displayed in more than 100 buildings. Among the exhibitors were 400 piano manufacturers, all competing for the gold medals that the insurance market makes future 'plan their dominance of the world.

Enthusiasm for the four> Floor models displayed York Steinway & Sons New was overwhelming. Steinway has won two gold medals, endorsements and praise from European royal houses of Franz Liszt and other great pianists. The Steinway grand piano was so wildly popular that the magazine Harper's Weekly published a cartoon showing battle crowds to get to a Steinway piano. The cartoon caption read: "Sudden Mania pianist plays Steinway pianos are created in ParisShow. "

York Sun was the popularity of the Steinway grand piano in 1869, Matthew Fontaine Maury, then chairman of the Physics Department at Virginia Military Institute sent two of his daughters in New, VA buying a Steinway for their home Lexington. Matthew F. Maury was a former director of the U.S. Naval Observatory, and Commodore of the Confederate Navy. He received medals from European leaders for his achievements and honored with the nickname "The Pathfinderseas "for his pioneering work on ocean currents. Lexington Commodore Maury was down to pursue his academic. If the house Steinway got to be some interest, Commodore Maury wrote excitedly son-in-law say its" The piano is come - all safe - Elegant. All content with him, and makes Elie Talk Now "! Thank you. "

My introduction to Maury Steinway was almost twenty years ago when I received a call from Keith Gibson, renowned author and Executive Director ofMuseum programs for Virginia Military Institute. Col. Gibson porch is the piano Maury, who had been kept under for decades. The piano was used by the family Maury family until about 1912, when the Christian, has been sold. In 1991, the Rev. William Christian, whose mother had bought the piano, which provided the VMI tool. generous funding of Dr. J. Battle Haslam, a 1961 VMI grad, provided money for restoration. In my experience, recovery of consciousnessantique pianos, Gibson asked, Col. assess the possible restoration plan.

My first impression of the piano, was that it should be sprinkled with petrol and set alight. The rosewood veneer was peeling from, ivory was missing, was in many keys, there was termite damage to the lid and legs, the strings were rusty, they felt moth eaten, and the piano action was completely seized because of verdigris 'action pivot points. But I knew thatThis was a historically important instrument, which was a historically important man in possession.

Before accepting a restoration job, I first determine the customer expectations. Col. Gibson has his expectations clear from the beginning: He is not a cosmetic clean-up that would be suitable only for display, he wanted to play this instrument. My logic was to say to me: "Run Away", but my instinct told me that this was my plan again. When I have anotherbe in charge of this restoration. This was an opportunity for me to pay homage to history. This instrument deserves thoughtful restoration and qualified, and I mean that only.

Restoring an antique piano is like restoring an old car and the restoration of antique furniture. A piano is a machine with thousands of pieces of wooden furniture. The warning that Antiques Roadshow "Finishing bad value" does not apply to pianos. The challenge with aantique piano is to get its historical integrity, while the insurance that they play music. admonition of Hippocrates' "first, do no harm" should stay in the mind of the restorer in the selection of materials and techniques. In consultation with Colonel Gibson, a restructuring plan was developed.

The restoration took more than a year. The piano has been completely dismantled, thousands of pieces were numbered and labeled. unusual configurations were photographed. The strings were sent to aString-maker for duplication. Action felts and fabrics have been carefully removed and replaced. The case was repaired veneer, and gold-plated brass parts were new cases. A new block connections tuning has been installed, and repaired the bridges and soundboard. The case was finished, and then the piano was once again lined up, reassembled the action, and the piano is regulated and coordinated.

The resulting instrument sound surprised everyone. Square pianos were typically irregular overwhelming toneweak bass and treble tones. The Steinway Maury was remarkable in tone for a square piano. Not surprisingly, Steinway has won awards including the 1867 World Exhibition in Paris.

Due to renovations at the museum, the plan was put into storage at VMI in 1995 until its official opening in June. Dr. Haslam was the first to play the piano, the implementation of the doxology and the Navy Hymn, decisions that would fall Commodore Maury. According to Dr. Haslam, song"Ashokan Farewell", the theme from the PBS series The Civil War, was performed by Ginny Hutchinson, great-granddaughter of Commodore Maury.

Nearly twenty years after the initial restoration, the Maury Steinway is still exhibited at the V.M.I. Museum in Lexington. It is occasionally played, and the piano's care is under the watchful eye of Col. Gibson. Once again, Commodore Maury's piano "talks". I am glad I played a part in restoring the pianos voice.

Learn Types of Swords For Collection

Having a movie sword replica collection can be the most satisfying hobby for many. If you are planning to start one or just considering whether it is the right hobby for you, this article is written to help you take that first step - acquiring information specifically what types of swords you should collect. If you search the net, you will find countless sword designs with detailed product specification. With all these options, it can be daunting at first to just figuring out which sword is suitable for you. So to make things simple, you need to know what is the purpose of the sword that you desire. The 3 categories of sword types available in the market are grouped based on that purpose.

Let's start with the first sword type - the decorative sword which is also frequently referred to as display sword The name decorative sword clearly states its purpose - making your fireplace, study or games room look fabulous. Decorative swords are generally made from but not limited to stainless steel making them more corrosive-resistant than common carbon steel. Even though meant for display purposes, they do come in both sharpened and unsharpened blades.

Bear in mind that decorative swords are not to be used in sword duels or weekend cutting parties. If you still insist, have a paramedic team on standby. Most decorative swords (99.99%) will break under abusive forces. Expect chipped edges and perhaps flying blade pieces, the latter possibly land you an "involuntary manslaughter" charge.

The second type of sword is the practice sword used for beginner and intermediate sword training exercises. The practice sword helps students to learn basic sword techniques (offence and defence), sword handling and balanced footwork. Practice swords can be made from a variety of materials mainly wood, plastic, latex, foam, aluminium and even steel. They do not have sharp edges for safety reasons which is perfect for sword duel exercises where students apply the skills they learned to the test.

You probably heard of sword cutting exercise in advanced training where actual swords with razor-sharp edges are used to cut bamboo, plastic containers and roll-bundled newspaper. Skilled and experienced professionals use functional sword for this purpose which is described in the next section.

The final type is the functional sword the real thing - designed and forged to withstand the brute forces exerted from cutting, stabbing and metal-to-metal clobbering. A fully-functional sword is one magnificent piece of engineering and sometimes termed "battle-ready" cause it really is. The blade and tang is made as a single piece from high carbon steel which have gone through a proper heat treatment. In case you are wondering, the tang is the part of the blade that extends into the hilt. A full-tang extends all the way to the hilt end typical of many European swords. A partial-tang is more favoured in Japanese Katana.

The cross-guard, grip and pommel of a functional sword are carefully designed and made from durable materials. If you plan to have a weekend cutting party, a fully functional sword is the best piece to use. Well actually it's a must. You are less likely to worry about damaging the sword just keep your eye on where the sword is going and make sure you're gripping it firmly. If you don't have any previous training on handling a functional sword go get one. Remember "involuntary manslaughter"?

Well there you have it, a quick walkthrough on the types of swords available. Before we end this article, a few practical examples should help clear any doubts and strengthen your understanding.Let's say you intend to use a movie sword replica for an upcoming cosplay event. For this a decorative sword made from wood, plastic or foam is best. Decorative sword can be manufactured identical to the design as shown in the movies.

However If you are looking for a movie sword to cut objects and work out a sweat, a functional sword is mandatory. Take note that a functional sword may not resemble exactly the design in the movies because most of the stunning designs you see on the silver screens are just that - designs. If a functional sword is forged exactly as seen, it may not behave like a true sword The weight could be too much to wield, there's heavy resistance to swinging or the whole sword vibrates violently upon contact. Not so functional or practical anymore. There are some manufacturers who apply design enhancements to make the movie replicas as original and functional as possible.

Piano Fingering

Early piano fingering systems were strikingly different than today. For one, the thumb was rarely used as a pivot over which the fingers could pass either up or down the scale-and then virtually only in the left hand. Lateral movement of the hands was most often achieved by passing one of the middle fingers (usually the long 3rd) over one of its neighbors.

Thus, in the right hand the 3rd finger would be slipped over the 4th when ascending, and over the 2nd when descending; and in the left hand vice versa. Hence, the thumb and fifth finger were used far less than today, and the middle three fingers far more. Today, the majority of players would find it impossible to follow the various older systems.

The basic principles of modern fingering first became widely known through C.P.E. Bach's Versuch of 1753. Originally it contained a supplement of six fully fingered sonatas showing how the rules for fingering were applied in practice. His son, Carl Philipp Emanuel, wrote

My deceased father told me that in his youth he used to hear great men who employed their thumbs only when large stretches made it necessary. Because he lived at a time when a gradual but striking change in musical taste was taking place, he was obliged to devise a far more comprehensive fingering and especially to enlarge the role of the thumb.

Important features in C.P.E. Bach's modern fingering system were:

Thumb used as pivot to achieve lateral movement of the hands
Thumb and 5th finger used on white notes only, except for wide stretches
Thumb passed under 2nd, 3rd, or 4th finger, but not under the 5th
Thumb used for passages in thirds
Fingers changed silently on a note
An adjacent pair of black and white notes played legato by sliding one finger from the black note to the white

Fingering for all the major and minor scales were given, sometimes with two or three alternatives. The fingering nearest the notes in either hand is the most usual, according to Bach, though a player of today would not always agree with him. For broken-chord figuration he recommends the fingering that would be used for the chords in their unbroken form.

Scarlatti must have used a far more advanced type of fingering than most of his contemporaries, otherwise many of his Sonatas would have been unplayable. The MS sources contain interesting indications that mean "change the fingers" and "with one finger" (i.e. glissando).

In Haydn's Fantasie in C the right hand demi-semiquaver octaves towards the end of the piece were almost certainly intended as glissandos, for they could hardly have been played otherwise at the indicated tempo.

There can be no doubt that octave glissandos in each hand were intended in the Prestissimo coda of the last movement of Beethoven's Waldstein Sonata, for his student Czerny recorded the fact. Octave glissandos of this kind would have been possibly on the early fortepiano, with its light and shallow touch. But on a modern piano they are so difficult that it is wiser, whenever possible, to divide them (fingered) between the two hands.

Both Chopin and Liszt reverted at times to the practice of slipping the long 3rd finger over the 4th or 5th, particularly when the thumb was otherwise occupied and the 3rd finger could play a black note. Chopin's Etude in A minor, Op. 10/2, is based entirely on this fingering.

Though Brahms never included fingering in his piano works, other than arrangements and exercises, the music itself shows that he must have fingered wide-ranging arpeggios in an individual way. This consisted in dividing the arpeggio into complete handfuls, instead of part-handfuls, and relying on the pedal to mask the break in legato that occurred when jumping from the thumb to the 5th finger, or vice versa.

Choosing Fingering

When learning one of the principal aims of good fingering in piano classes is to avoid unnecessary hand movement. Hence it is often helpful to see how many notes of a phrase can be played legato without any hand-shift. If the whole phrase can be included, the player should then decide whether this fingering will best produce the articulation he requires, or whether it would be clearer with a less static hand position. In every instance, the various alternatives should be weighed and tried, to see which will best produce the desired musical effect.

When shifts are necessary, they should if possible be made to underline the phrasing rather than contradict it; thus it is always an advantage if hand-shifts can be made to coincide with breaks in a phrase. In passage-work, the player should be continually on the look-out for patterns in the music-particularly the less obvious ones that begin off the beat-and should try to match them with fingering patterns.

In passages founded on broken chords, it is always helpful to reduce the chords to their unbroken form, as this indicates where the most natural hand-shifts occur.

A change of finger on a single note can be used for two opposite effects:
(a) to underline detached phrasing, and
(b) to obtain a long legato.

When the detailed fingering of a passage has been worked out, its essential features should be written into the copy; but everything that is obvious or can be taken for granted should be omitted. Changes of hand position are important, and can generally be made clear for the right hand by marking the thumbs in ascending passages, and the third and fourth fingers in descending ones; and vice versa for the left hand. Any unexpected or irregular fingerings should also be marked, preferably only by means of the key finger involved. Otherwise the player's aim should be to reduce the fingering in his copy to the minimum consistent with clarity, for the fewer the marks the easier they are to read.

Designing the Master Suite

Everyone needs a change every once in a while and if you have had the same colors and furniture in the master suite for a while, it may be time for a change.

Depending on the set up of your master bedroom and the way the dressing area and bath are connected, you can have them flow off of each other with colors. If you have basic white walls in your bath and bedroom, then sprucing things up and decorating can be very simple by adding some color here and there.

You can even decorate for each season, just by changing the bedding and the curtains. Curtains can sometime be pretty expensive and if you are operating under a budget like most people these days, then simple tabbed topped curtains or panels are good to use. Just make sure that the curtain rods you are using are appropriate for tabbed topped panels. If you are unsure what tabbed topped panels are, it's simple; you will be able to see the rod that the panel is hanging on, so you want to make sure it's not the old metal type of rod.

So if it is a spring seasonal look you want, start with the bedroom and changing out dark bedding for light airy type with pastel colors is good for a spring look. You can use some pale yellow or pink or melon or light greens to give it the spring time look you want. For you ladies whose husbands might balk at the feminine colors, try to steer away from flowery prints, just use solids or maybe a checked pattern in the pastel colors for throw pillows on the beds. Pale blues or shades of blue and or greens may not give them such a fit as yellows or pinks.

You can carry these same colors into the bathing area and if you have a garden tub with either a shelf close by or around the tub, adding some live plants or ivies or using silk plants is always a good touch. Try adding a rug in the colors from the bedroom, in front of the tub or shower. Also in the bedroom, you can add runners which are like area rugs along beside the bed or at the foot of the bed to also add a flare and some color for accent purposes.

A tip for decorating in a bedroom for night stands or bed tables, a small cloth runner or lace doilies over a table topper adds a little touch of class to any bedside table and will also help to add a little extra color. If the suite has a covered patio or porch area off the master suite, why not run the colors out on to the porch area?

You can get really creative on the patio area. You can buy chaise loungers with colored cushions or even colored chairs now in several different colors and styles. A tabled fire pit is an awesome addition to the porch area and if your spring time, still has very cool nights, a nice fire to take the chill out of the area and can also offer a little bit of romance into the night as well.

Unique Ideas For Outdoor Lighting

Not just for practicality, but for safety, security, ambience and atmosphere, outdoor lighting offers so much to any landscape, patio or outdoor room. There are many types of outdoor lights available and thousands of possible styles. Let's look at a few options for unique outdoor lighting ideas:

LED Lights

Whether its around pathways, along driveways, by steps or by entrances, LED lights have many uses when it comes to lighting up the outdoors. In addition, there are now many options for LED lights that are powered by solar panels. These solar powered LED lights can be used in places around your home where electricity would be either too expensive or difficult to use or install. Not to mention that by using solar powered lights, you save a ton of money. Solar powered lights are also a very eco-friendly choice.

Lanterns

Moroccan style lanterns and candle lanterns are a great and unique option for outdoor lighting on patios and in pool areas. They provide beauty, atmosphere and ambiance. There's a wide variety of choices, including many styles and colors.

Torches

They may seem a bit primitive, but they do their job. Torches are great for backyard parties, luaus, barbeques, pool parties and other backyard festivities.

Underwater Lights

There's many types of underwater lights available for your pool, pond, water feature, even for wells. These are great for safety and also give off a nice ambience.

Step Lights

These are lights that are hidden under steps and actually light up the step. This is excellent for safety, especially if you have nighttime gatherings in your backyard often. There's also deck lights that light up certain areas of your deck, including the steps and rails for better safety, and these are also great options.

Post Lanterns

These are another type of lantern, that are basically for the sides of walkways but mainly for entrances. The light is set on top of a post, often with a roof on top of it, so the light is diffused somewhat. These are great for adding an Asian flair to your outdoor areas.

Outdoor Table Lamps

These are basically table lamps that are weatherproofed so that they can withstand weather and the elements. Available in many styles and colors, but the most popular type would be in bronze or stainless steel.

Flood Lights

Lastly, flood lights are a pretty standard options for lighting up part of your home's exterior, the landscaping, certain trees or plants or your entire home. Flood lights are great for accenting whatever part of your home you want to show off.

The Coolest Piano Lamp You Ever Did See

Piano lamps have added a lot of style and flare to tops of pianos. Lighting the playing surface with candles was the original intent of the piano lamp. It provided a lot of beauty for the largest performance halls and for beginning childhood piano lessons. The downside was the glare that the light gave off. The low light increased eyestrain. As technology evolved electricity help to create the light bulb, which led to the invention of the modern day piano lamp. The piano light became very popular as it could display light from several different angles increasing the grand experience for the player. A piano lamp is the finishing touch to any room décor, dramatically increasing the look and feel of the smallest music rooms or largest concert halls.

When choosing a piano lamp there are several different designs and styles to choose from. A lot will be determined by personal preference of the style and design of the piano light. Choosing the right finish will also help compliment any room. When choosing a piano lamp a consumer must decide which piano light works best for them. Here are some of the style and designs that I personally like the best.

The Desk Piano Lamp works well in many situations. The desk piano lamp is adjustable at both the base and the top of the stem giving the user several different lighting configurations to choose from. With shades as wide as fourteen inches it will give the user ample glare free light on any surface. There are several different finishes that will add beauty to the room.

LED Piano Lamps have become more popular because of their design. LED stands for light-emitting diode. It has become very popular because of its slim design and energy efficiency. The LED light bulb is a lot smaller than a traditional bulb giving it the ability to be developed in slimmer, low profile design. Another added feature is that a LED piano light is more cost efficient to use and it will have the ability to last a lot longer than a traditional light bulb.

Another popular design is the Counter Balance Piano Lamp. It is very popular because of it high quality, luxurious design. I really like this one as it gives you all of the advantage of a desk lamp but adding a beautiful flare to any décor. The attractive base and flexible swivel add to the overall lighting capabilities.

One my favorites and very popular piano lamp is the treble clef piano lamp The lamp has a high quality polished brass finish. The finish will compliment any room décor. The piano lamp has an engaging, musical appearance with a Treble Clef on the stem of the unit. This lamp will give ample glare free light to any musical score. This unique piano light will please the music lover at heart with its attractive design. This piano lamp is definitely one of the coolest lights that I ever seen.

Face Painting - It's Easy and Fun!

Are you interested in the art of face painting? Maybe you are wondering whether it's beyond your artistic abilities? I've discovered that face painting is really not a difficult art to learn, and is only as complicated as you make it.

I first discovered how much kids love having their faces painted when my daughter was invited to a birthday party of another 4 year old girl. When we arrived, the kids were delighted to find an older sister of the birthday girl was setting up to paint their faces. It was fantastic to see how the kids began to interact more to look at the designs each other had chosen, and to role-play their characters. My daughter was a little hesitant to begin with, but after watching some of the other children, she happily lined up and chose a ladybird cheek art design.

It was also surprising to learn how easy face painting was, and how happy the kids were with simple designs. It's really not necessary to have elaborate and complicated designs to keep the kids happy. The face painter was only 13 or 14 years old and had no trouble quickly painting the requested designs before the kids got too restless.

The secret to keeping it simple? She had a small display book of simple designs the kids could choose from and didn't paint anything that wasn't in the book. There were about 10 designs, including a butterfly, ladybird, spider, puppy dog, cat face, bunny rabbit, princess, tiger, bear, and even an octopus! Her kit included face paints in a few colors, some brushes and wet wipes. That's it! And the best part for the parents? It kept all the different age groups entertained! The teenager had a great time looking after the little kids and helping them decide what design to choose, and of course the little ones loved getting their faces painted.

If you'd like to give face painting a try, you will need a small kit of face paints and brushes to suit the designs you will be painting. You can have as many or as few designs for the children to choose from as you wish, depending on your skill level and how much practice you have had. A range of designs to suit both boys and girls is best, although you may be surprised at what the children ask for! If the party has a particular theme (such as a princess party for example), you may wish to include several variations of the themed designs such as princess crowns.
